An NPC is a Non-Player Character, or a character that is played by the Moderator (who sets and describes the background), and not the player. An NPC can be the most basic of characters - such as a bitpart bartender who is visible in-game for little longer than a post or two - but can range all the way to a well-developed character in their own right
