Fauna
From Tazlure Gaming System Wiki
Sometimes known as Bestiary. This includes all entities that are not intelligent enough to be counted as a Race. This too includes what people in table top settings know as the Monsterous Manual. Typically a game may limit the races to only the playable races and list the other intelligent races that are only NPC's under the Fauna. In this write up however we shall concentrate on non-intelligent fauna.
[edit] Real Life
There are so many animals that would be listed in this category that we will not list them here. However there are some categories that we want you to consider. Include them in your setting if they add to it, by providing diversity, food resources, clothing (fur), magical resources or some form of excitement. Consider the pyramid of life when you recreate earth.
- Avifauna - all the birds of the planet
- Piscifauna - all the fish of the planet
- Cyro fauna - animals that live in icy conditions
- Meiofauna - small benthic invertebrates that live in both marine and fresh water environments.
- Microfauna - includes bacteria
- Macrofauna - benthic or soil organisms that are incredibly small
- Mesofauna - soil invertebrates such as arthropods, earthworms
- Megafauna - large animals of any region
[edit] Fantasy
The sky is the limit. There are a few classical and mythical monsters you can include if you run a fantasy game, but in a sci fi setting you are even more free form to what you want to create. It is essential that you consider the balance of life during your creation, giving your fantasy creation an inner logic.
- What does your species feed on?
- Who preys on your species?
- What do they add to the overall ecology?
- What kind of terrain do they live in?
- How large is their habitat and thus how large is the current population?
- Do they have extra ordinary abilities, or are they perhaps intelligent?
- Do they communicate with each other or with other species, and how?
