Player Compendium
From Tazlure Gaming System Wiki
Player Compendiums did not originate with the TGS. The credit goes to CPOL. However we have integrated it as open source material, through our association with Age of Intrigue. It is a tool of communication between moderator and player, helpful for:
- coordinating efforts
- forward planning of events
- keeping inventory, wardrobe and ledger if that is part of the game.
- tracking character development and accomplishment
Definition
The Player Compendium is a secret forum attached to a character. Both the moderators and the player have moderator status in that particular forum, which is invisible for everybody else (setting: mod only). As a consequence the Player Compendium can be used to keep notes, communicate with moderators, prepare for Recess etc. An alternative permissions setting is creating an usergroup for the player compendium and making the player the leader of the usergroup. This will allow the player to give other users access to the compendium.
Each approved character which has started to post in his area of choice will get a compendium. If you have more than one character you will thus have more than one compendium. If the setting of the game you run has more than one area or if your game is particularly large, you might want to give some thought to organizing the compendiums for the moderators in such a way that they can keep easy oversight.
Suggested Threads
- Character Sheet - including updates that are made later, such as details on the past that have revealed themselves
- Inventory - if there is no other automated set up, people can list their wardrobe and other belongings
- Ledger - if there is no automated set up, people can keep track of
- money
- where money is kept and how it is protected
- household & estate details
- Q&A - for clarifications, updates, inquiries
- Dayplanner - a player can keep track of the threads the PC has been in, the threads currently played out and future events the character shall attend, as well what correspondence has been answered.
- Character Development - How have events changed your character? What good and bad repercussions were there? What has your character learned? What skills is he practising?
- Ambitions - This thread is dedicated to the goals of your character IC. What plans does he have? What positions does he want to gain? What steps has he taken towards his ambitions and which ones will he take in future? See Also Goal Orientated Playing
- Preplotting, plotting requests - by making suggestions as to what kind of plots would be enjoyable (whether that is fun or trouble for the character), what updates are expected on current plots etc.
- Summary RP - details that mods and PCs need to settle but are too mundane to play out. By allowing the PC to ask questions which the mods can then answer some larger planning issues can be taken out of the general threads.
Do's and Don'ts
As in any part of the site, rules of conducts can be the key to gentle mature behaviour. Here is the list that the TGS suggests for use of the compendiums by the players.
- Do share your views on your current threads, your plans, your ambitions, your worries.
- Don't rant at your moderators, whine for posts etc. Normal etiquette applies as it does everywhere in our community. If you and your moderator have a disagreement you are free to contact the Administration in PM.
- Do prettify your forum as you see fit. The suggested threads are voluntary.
- Don't expect your moderator to do it for you
- Do feel free to edit out inaccuracies etc.
- Don't delete material from moderators, previous discussions you dislike or whatever in a peeve. Contact your coordinator if you feel some material should be removed so there are no misunderstandings.
- Do keep a tidy forum
- Do not expect us to dig up material from back ups if you delete something and regret it later.
